Herbal Work Study @ the Memphis Botanic Garden

Date:
Saturday, July 14, 2018 - 8:15am

The first two hours will be spent weeding, grooming, thinning, planting, or whatever else needs doing in the Herb Garden.  The last hour will be spent learning about the different methods to preserve herbs.  I will have cold water and bug spray available, you bring your favorite hand tools for weeding and grooming (soil knives, Cape Cod weeders, old kitchen knives, trowels, pruners, gloves, etc. – no hoes or rakes needed, though).  Everyone will get to go home with a handout that includes tips and recipes.  If you would like to make a vinegar shrub to take home, please bring an 8oz glass jar and 8oz of apple cider vinegar.

Arrive at the Horticulture Building in the south end of the parking lot between 8:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. The group will leave the building promptly at 8:30 a.m. Please dress appropriately: sun hats and closed toe shoes are suggested. Note: this learning opportunity is “purchased” via a barter system: you must work the first two hours (8:15 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.) to attend the last hour of class (10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.), making this a free event!).
