Wednesday, April 18, 2012, Downtown Memphis, TN – For the third consecutive year, Downtown Memphis will be celebrating National Bike-to-Work Day on Friday, May 18, 2012. Last year, more than 300 Downtown residents and employees learned firsthand how easy it is to get around Downtown’s 6.5 square miles by bike.
Downtown Memphis Commission is partnering with Shelby County Health Department Pollution Control Section again this year to present the 2012 Bike-to-Work Championships for the three companies with the highest numbers of registered participants. Last year’s champions - 1st place: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital; 2nd place: archer > malmo; and 3rd place: Burch, Porter Johnson – will have the opportunity to retain or improve their championship status this year.
Sign-up for Bike-to-Work Day is easy: online registration is available at www.downtownmemphis.com/biketowork. In addition, each organization vying for the Bike-to-Work Championship will then confirm its actual Bike-to-Work Day participation by posting a group photo to the Bike to Work Downtown Memphis Facebook page (www.facebook.com/pages/Bike-to-Work-Downtown-Memphis/107857209252012) by 10:30 a.m. on May 18. All winners will be announced during the Downtown Bicycle Expo, which will take place in Court Square from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
